Automated Fuel Filtration System

Critical facilities store increasing amounts of fuel on site to assure continuity of operation. As a result, stored fuel has low turnover in operation. Diesel fuel is an organic fluid and, by nature, is unstable.

After only months of storage, diesel fuel is subject to deterioration, oxidation, microbial contamination, andre-polymerization. It is for this reason that fuel oil filtration and fuel polishing is a very important aspect of emergency power reliability.

Automated Fuel Filtration
The FuelMate™ Series of Advanced Fuel Filtration Systems are designed to assist in maintaining the integrity of diesel fuel being stored for mission critical applications and facilities. Each system is equipped to routinely purify and filter stored diesel fuel and thereby assist with trouble-free generator starts and with the reduction of annual maintenance costs.

The FuelMate™ is equipped with a UL/ULC listed pre-programmable 7 day 24 hour on-board PLC controller with sophisticated control and monitoring capabilities. The system is fully automated and is designed to service multiple tanks. An Albany positive displacement gear pump circulates fuel through the assembly where the system breaks up fuel sludge and removes virtually 100% of the free water and up to 98% of Particulate, to 2 microns. The filtered fuel is then returned to the storage vessel. (See “Fuel Filtration – The Four Stages”)

The FuelMate™ is designed for use with all Class II or III combustible fuels having a fash point of 100° F or higher, and can be configured for each specialized application, ranging from 250 to 50,000 gallon capacity. The filtration assembly and controller are housed in a weatherproof NEMA 4x, key lockable enclosure, available in both wall and floor mount configurations. Alarm sensors monitor fuel flow, pump failure, water level, system high & low pressure, and a fuel rupture containment basin with float and sensor valve.

Restoring fuel to its “clean and clear and bright” condition reduces the risk of generator failure due to dirty fuel, and eliminates the costs associated with contaminated fuel disposal and storage tank cleaning.

FuelMate™ Advanced Fuel Filtration Systems are able to greatly improve emergency preparedness through enhanced fuel quality management.

Fuel Filtration – The Four Stages

Stage 1: Separation
Fuel enters the filter assembly, moves through the centrifuge and spins off large solids and water droplets which fall to the bottom of the collection bowl.

Stage 2: Coalescing
Small water droplets bead-up on the surface of the conical baffle and cartridge element. When heavy enough, they too fall to the bottom of the bowl.

Stage 3: De-polymerization
Fuel passes through a magnetic fuel conditioner, resulting in de-polymerization. Sludge particles break up and dissolve and are reunited into the fuel.

Stage 4: Filtration
Cartridge elements repel water and remove contaminants from fuel down to 2 micron (nominal).
